Fundraising Phases
« Topic Start: October 10, 2011, 03:09:20 AM »
In order to ensure the success of this project, I believe that funding should be tackled in two phases.

Phase 1: Digital Publication
Phase 2: Print

The last thing we need is a lofty goal and, in the end, not enough funding to achieve it.

If we can achieve a lower dollar goal for digital publication, then the digital product may give us the "buzz" to bring more funding in for the "Phase 2" of printing hard copies and getting them on store shelves.

In other words, the cost of digital publication is so much lower than that of physical publication that we are that much closer to successfully funding and releasing this project digitally than in print.

Rather than tie the digital release to the print release, with neither being done if funding fails, I think the fundraising definitely needs to be split.

In the end, if we achieve digital funding and fall flat when raising the cash to print, we at least succeeded in providing a new comics universe on the "digital stage".

I look forward to others' thoughts on this concept.

I think it's smart to test the digital waves first. For projects like this and especially for guys trying to make a name in a difficult field. Print is SO expensive without the backing of a publisher.

Digital is definitely the "fast track" to getting something out there. I feel like digital release is the best way to guage the possibility of print.

After all, the project can take into account what digital "success" is - it doesn't have to be on par with print success.
